Money Matters - Principles we have been learning
God is the owner of all and he has called us to be stewards
Money is a tool to be used not a God to be served.
“Earn all you can, give all you can, save all you can” ― John Wesley
dichotomy of this statement
Cannot Give without...
Cannot Save without...
How do we get money & Where does wealth come from?
Deuteronomy 8:17–20 NKJV
then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’ “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the Lord your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish. As the nations which the Lord destroys before you, so you shall perish, because you would not be obedient to the voice of the Lord your God.
Deuteronomy 8:17–19 NKJV
then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’ “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the Lord your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish.
Deuteronomy 8:16–19 NKJV
who fed you in the wilderness with manna, which your fathers did not know, that He might humble you and that He might test you, to do you good in the end—then you say in your heart, ‘My power and the might of my hand have gained me this wealth.’ “And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day. Then it shall be, if you by any means forget the Lord your God, and follow other gods, and serve them and worship them, I testify against you this day that you shall surely perish.
Deut 8:

Work was Gods idea.

Work was Gods idea.

Why do we tend to view work with a negative lens?
Exodus 20:11 NKJV
For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.
Exodus 20:9 NKJV
Six days you shall labor and do all your work,

The purpose of Work

My Work is Gods means of providing

How would you answer the question, What is the purpose of work?
Number one, it might help you to know that God is a worker. God is a worker. The work of God is described often in the Bible. The very phrase, “the work of God,” appears a number of times in Scripture.
Secondly, Jesus is a worker as well. He said in , “I must work the works of My Father. I must work the works of My Father.” He says, “The One who sent Me, I must do His work.” In He said, “My food is to do the will of Him who sent Me and to accomplish His work.” Whatever it is that God does, Jesus does. In fact, He says that in , “My Father is working still and I am working.” And the Jews went ballistic because they said He’s making Himself equal with God because He says He does the work that God does.
Proverbs 12:11 NKJV
He who tills his land will be satisfied with bread, But he who follows frivolity is devoid of understanding.
Proverbs 14:23 NKJV
In all labor there is profit, But idle chatter leads only to poverty.
prov

The problem of work

How has sin affected work for you?
Genesis 3:17–19 NKJV
Then to Adam He said, “Because you have heeded the voice of your wife, and have eaten from the tree of which I commanded you, saying, ‘You shall not eat of it’: “Cursed is the ground for your sake; In toil you shall eat of it All the days of your life. Both thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you, And you shall eat the herb of the field. In the sweat of your face you shall eat bread Till you return to the ground, For out of it you were taken; For dust you are, And to dust you shall return.”
Genesis 3

Prov2
Having a proper understanding about work is how we can make “cents” out of work.
a. Ask the Spirit to make you a hard worker for God. b. Read, re-read, and even memorize the proverbs that pertain to both laziness and work. c. Trust God to overcome any bad habits you’ve developed regarding work and diligence. d. When you are tempted to be lazy, seek the Spirit’s help in prayer and remind yourself what the Word of God teaches.
19. Show how the Proverbs on diligence and laziness are important by reading them to your family and then applying the biblical principles.  Discuss with your family how you can hold one another accountable to be diligent workers for God and men. [; ; ; , , ; ; ; ; ; ; ]
